Our rainbow fish celery painting was such a fun, quick and creative activity! Sometimes my toddler is just soooooo bored and driving mama a we bit crazy that I need a simple activity to distract and calm her down for a little bit! One of Aliza’s favorite books is THE RAINBOW FISH which helped inspire this fun activity !
Materials for Rainbow Fish Celery Painting
- Free Fish Printable
- Washable Kids Paint
- Kids Paint brushes
- Celery sticks
- Kids Table and Chairs (Baby wipes removes EVERYTHING from this table!!)
Using Stamps as Developmental skills
In this activity we use the ends of the celery as a stamp! The end of the celery is what makes these beautiful rainbow fish scales. Using the celery end as a stamp to make the fish scales allows your little to be creative! Using a stamp also helps your little one to gain fine motor skills in those little hands.
Rainbow Fish Celery Painting Activity: Step By Step
Step one:
I have created a FREE fish printable you can use for this activity! Print it or design your own. Once you have this, set up the washable kids paint on a paper plate for your toddlers convenience! Cut up how ever many pieces of celery sticks as there is colors of paint. In our case we used 7 colors of paint, so I cut 7 celery slices.
Step two:
Let your toddler practice her stamps so they will know how to make their fish scales! If you have enough celery, you can make practice sticks or just “TRY” to keep it neat and keep each celery with their own color! Once Aliza got the hang of the celery stamp we moved on to creating our picture!
Step three:
I helped Aliza stamp her scales in nice straight lines! If your completing this activity with a toddler do not expect them to be able to complete this alone. It requires your assistance if you want it to look like this 😉 If not, then let them go to town! Paint your fins with a paintbrush and your little one has just made their own Rainbow Fish! Cool!
Step four:
Engage in some messy/sensory play once they complete this activity! There is no stopping my little one when it comes to paint! She loves to paint her hands as you can see! She was reaching, stamping, painting, creating, exploring and engaging in messy play! So much occupational therapy/developmental play in one activity and this mama loved watching it!
We hope you enjoyed making a RAINBOW FISH with celery and paint as much as we did! Do not forget to subscribe to follow our latest activities and share! Sharing is Caring <3
