Hi all! I do not know about you, but we are on day 45 of quarantine!! I have a four year old with DiGeorge Syndrome and a history of CHD which leads to strict protocols that must be followed for her safety during this pandemic. SO, that means mama is putting in that work to keep her little ones happy, entertained, engaged and learning! If you just stumbled across this post or my blog, stay a while and check out all of the beneficial and fun activities we do 😁 Keep on scrolling to see how we made this awesome taste safe sand.
Materials for taste safe sand:
- Flour
- Water
- Food coloring
- Vegetable oil
- Pan
**You may already have most of these ingredients in your kitchen, if not they can all be found at the dollar store**
How to make taste safe sand
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 300 degrees!
Step 2: Pour 2 cups of flour into an oven safe pan or on to a cookie sheet.
Step 3: Mix a few drops of food coloring into 1/4 cup of water and add it to the flour. Mix it around with a spoon.

Step 4: After using the spoon, use your hands to mix. You will want to take the mixture into your hands and rub your hands together back and fourth. Do this until it is all mixed in and you have minimal clumps.

Step 5: Bake in the over for 10 minutes. Once it cools down thrust back and fourth in hands. If it is still wet place back in the oven for another 10 minutes. When it cools, thrust in your hands to break it down again.
Step 6: Add 3 oz of vegetable oil.

Step 7: Mix in the oil using your hands. Thrust the mixture inside your hands one final time. The oil will help break down the last bit of clumps.

Your sand is now complete! Pour your sand into a container and add some toys to play. To make more than one color, complete steps 1 – 7 again but change step 3 and add a different color to your water.

We used our sand and turned it into a beautiful unicorn sensory bin. It was colorful and full of girly bling for my princesses. I included containers and scoopers for extra fun! I found these unicorns at my local dollar store and the diamonds are from Micheals craft store.
