DIY Stamp Heart Painting for Kids

Hey Guys! Thanks for stopping by! Can you believe Valentine’s Day is around the corner. These years and holiday’s fly by faster and faster. I guess it’s true that time flies when you’re having fun!

Here’s a simple activity to kick start a LOVING month!

  • Clothespins
  • Heart shaped foam
  • Hot glue gun
  • Red & Pink kids paint
  • Canvas
  • Sequins
  • Glitter (optional)

How to make a Heart Stamp?

You can find most of these materials at your local dollar store, if not Amazon. The dollar store is already loaded with Valentine’s Day stuff so check it out! To make your stamp, you will need your clothespins, foam hearts and hot glue gun. Once your glue gun is hot you will add a dab of glue on the mouth of the clothespin and place it in the middle of the heart. Stand them up using the heart, until dry.

Once your stamps are complete, they are ready to use! I thought this would be a cute gift idea so we made ours on canvas! You guys know I am extra.. SO, I took a bunch of sequins and hot glued them into the words “Happy V-Day”! The stamps will work on paper or cardboard just fine. Get creative, do whatever your heart desires 😉

If you have a toddler or preschooler you will need to assist them with this activity. Your little one will probably want to stick the heart in the paint and stamp away! You will end up with globs of paint all over the place 🙁 Just make sure there is not too much paint on the heart and make sure the paint is evenly spread out. Always do a test one before putting it on your canvas or paper!

Clothespin and Grasp

Clothespins are a staple material we LOVE to use in Occupational Therapy. There are so many activities you can do with clothespins that are extremely beneficial for grip, grasp and hand strengthening. For this activity we used clothespins to encourage a nice pencil grasp. It is so much fun to create new tools to design with. It expands tiny minds and encourages creative play

After we completed our canvas we set it aside to dry. Aliza wanted to continue stamping so I gave her some construction paper and let her go to town. This was a great activity to do together, considering the heart is our favorite shape! She loved the colors and kept telling me how pretty her stamp was!

I think this is the perfect craft to turn into a gift! It will be a meaningful gesture since your little loved one made it! If anyone makes anything using stamp hearts, we would love to see.
